Rotary District Assembly in Columbus, GA

Whine or Wine TODAY @ Hubs & Hops

First Tuesday of the month from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. It's a great time to get to know one another and it is a make up!

This week's program is
Randolph G. Russell, author of American History in No Time

According to a recent study, three-fourths of the country can’t name the three branches of our government.
Randolph G. Russell will speak about restoring the connection to our national heritage. Numerous audiences
across the South have enthusiastically received his informative, entertaining, non-political presentations. He is
the author of American History in No Time, the quickest and easiest way for anyone to learn the basics – in just
a few hours. It is also the perfect refresher and a great way for parents and grandparents to ensure that their
families have a solid foundation. The book has been used at a number of colleges but is easy for anyone to understand,
even children and people who haven’t liked history before.
In addition to his expertise in American history, Russell is an accomplished musician who has performed in
many European countries and throughout the United States. He concludes his presentations by playing “America
the Beautiful” on the saxophone. In business, he held a number of financial management positions with
companies in Georgia and Florida. Russell holds degrees from the University of Miami and the University of

Florida.

THANK YOU
Will Watt for last week's presentation

Look what our
C.H.A.R.T. Interact Club is doing

Our C.H.A.R.T. (Christian Homeschoolers Association of Regional Thomasville) Interact Club, lead by Heather Lindquist, served Saturday, March 23rd picking up trash for Keep Thomas County Beautiful Day. Seven students worked and picked up 10 bags of trash on Reid Street.

ABC's of Rotary

Paul Harris - First but Not First

Was Paul Harris the first president of a Rotary club? No.

Was Paul Harris the first president of Rotary International? Yes.

There is an easy explanation to this apparent contradiction. Although Paul Harris was the founder and organizer of the first Rotary club in Chicago in 1905, the man selected to be the first president was one of the other founding members, Silvester Schiele. By the year 1910 there were 16 Rotary clubs, which linked up as an organization called the National Association of Rotary Clubs. Two years later the name was changed to the International Association of Rotary Clubs, as Rotary was organized in Winnipeg, Canada, and then in England, Ireland and Scotland. In 1922 the name was shortened to Rotary International. When the first organization of Rotary clubs was created in 1910, Paul Harris was selected as the first president. He served in this position for two years, from 1910 until 1912. Thus, the founder of the Rotary idea, who declined to be president of the first club, became the first president of the worldwide organization, Rotary International.
