President John's Message

Membership is the lifeblood of a vibrant Rotary Club.  This week we welcome Ray Peabody into our club, a former Rotarian in Virginia Beach many years ago.

Everyone in Roswell Rotary should be on the lookout for potential new Rotarians.  Just as we say that everyone is part of the Golf and Tennis Tournament Committee, likewise y’all are all part of the Membership Committee.  It is essential to continue to invite friends and colleagues to our meetings and encourage them to consider membership in our great club.

So far this year we have gained a net of 3 members, all in the Roswell Rotary After Hours club.  That group which meets on Tuesday nights twice a month started the year with 18, had one resignation, and have inducted 4 new members to bring their membership to 21.

In the main Roswell Rotary Club group, we have lost 8 members due to relocation, employment changes, family issues, or passing away.  But we have balanced that by adding 8 new members to maintain our number at 220.  We have room to grow!

Know someone who might be a good Rotarian?  Reach out to our Membership Chair, Katie Anderson ktucker@ehla.com, or me and we will provide you with applications and information on joining.

Thursday Speaker: SFX Fitness: Let's get fit!

Physical exercise is truly the fountain of youth! Amd we are so excited to have these amazing experts visit our club this Thursday to share their stories and their wisdom with us. Quality of life is so important to all of us, young or not so young. And being strong and fit can be the difference between a life of vitality and a life of just dragging one foot in front of the other. Please mark your calendar now to join these fitness experts from SFX Fitness and learn more about how to prepare your body to avoid falls, improve balance, increase stamina, give you the strength to handle the kids and the grandkids or even carry in the groceries from the car! Don't Miss!!!

Sharing the Good We Do!
Calling on our selfie and snapshot experts

We want to share all of the great things our club is doing for our community! And it's hard for Michael Gould to be everywhere all the time. So we need you all to be part of the Roswell Rotary Photography Team!

Anytime you are at an event and you take a few pictures with your phone, please send them via text or email to michael@goulddigitalimaging.com or text 770-617-2958 or kigou@gmail.com or text 404-408-4188 so we can add them to club picture archives for 2023. These can be used in social media, videos, newsletters, and meeting powerpoints! but if we don't have the pictures, we can't communicate the joy and fun and work and engagement of our club projects.

Looking forward to spreading the word about the work this club is doing in 2023! Thanks for your help!

Before it's too late...why Gabriel is donating blood

If I can you can.. donate while you can.

I have always thought about donating blood. I have to say my fear of the needle and the lack of knowledge of my donation’s impact has kept me away from donating. I always said, next year, next time, etc. Now is the time to donate, now is the time to make an impact on those who need this irreplaceable and inimitable life resource.

Sometimes I amuse myself when I go to doctor appointments and I have blood work scheduled. When that time comes I let the nurse know about my dislike of the needle while I am conversing about current events, traffic, how much the city has grown, and sports. Then that uncomfortable deciding moments comes when it is time to get that blood to determine my overall health and how my main organs are working.

While I look the other way, I can’t help but to think how many animals I have killed and skinned with a knife. So why I am uncomfortable with a tiny needle when I have butchered a cow? That I cannot explain.

Secondly, that ability to procrastinate thinking that there will always time and that some else is already donating has led me through a path of inaction and a latter feeling of regret for not doing what I could have done. Sometimes it feels like when you walk on the streets and see a piece of paper on the ground and do nothing because someone else coming afterward will pick it up.

In the case of donating blood there is not a someone else will donate nor people already donate enough blood. Blood  must be replenished constantly and if not use within a certain period it may become useless. Not to mentioned only 3% ,of the eligible people who can donate, give blood on a regular basis

Thanks to Rotary and it partnership with the Red Cross I will have an opportunity to change my past decision, and be able to serve my community because it is fair and it matters to all concerned.

I will place service above self, and….donate now while I can.

ACTION ITEM:  If you are one of the 2 out of 3 people that can NOT give, then please share this story with a friend, coworker or family member who can, and encourage them to donate.  If you can donate, click here to schedule your appointment.  If the good feeling of donating isn’t enough, we’ll give your free snacks afterward plus – and this is a popular one – a coupon for free pint of Gate City’s beer.  Pint for a pint.  Get it?  Now help us get another donor appointment booked.
