RRC Helping Teens
President John's Message

In 2021 during Terry Taylor’s presidency, Roswell Rotary embarked on the concept of using a portion of the proceeds from the Golf and Tennis Tournament to create a Community Impact Project that would go beyond the usual donations we make to many charities and non-profits in our community.  For this first impact project Roswell Rotary partnered with Wellstar Health System to update the Family Waiting Room at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital and launch podcasts and videos designed to impact student and parent behavioral health.

The project kicked-off in February 2022 with an innovative Behavioral Health meeting including Rotarians, school counselors, board of education members, Fulton County Board of Health leadership, medical professionals, and Roswell Mayor to discuss innovative ways to address behavioral health of our youth that did not duplicate existing programs and resources.

Last fall we launched Phase 1, a five episode series of Roswell Teen Talk Podcasts that address many of the stresses of high school life and ways to overcome them.  This week at our meeting we will launch Phase 2, the Video series, and then that evening, we can tour Phase 3, the new Roswell Rotary Family Waiting Room at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital.

Program Thursday
Wellstar Behavioral Health Videos Launch

This week we will hear from Past President Terry Taylor, Dr. Ryan Breshears and Roswell Rotarian Jon-Paul Croom on the success of the Roswell Teen Talk podcasts, the launch of the Parenting Video Series and the sponsorship by Roswell Rotary of the WellStar North Fulton Family Waiting Room at the Emergency Department.  The Roswell Teen Talk podcasts were developed using the voices of Roswell students, parents and behavioral health professionals.  The podcasts were downloaded 568 times from 10 countries and 1,300 site visits.  This is an incredible result because of the expertise of WellStar Behavioral Health, the reach of Roswell Rotary and the authentic voices of Roswell youth! If you want to listen to these podcasts, go to:  https://roswellteentalk.podbean.com/.

Parenting teens is a challenge, so the Parenting Video Series was developed to provide positive tips for parents of teens in a fun format where they can “choose their own adventure”.  The Parenting Videos can be viewed at:

•   Social Media Influence - https://youtu.be/3lDvs8OSbAg

•   Car Crash Confession - https://youtu.be/SJWNLBXsoqU

ONCE AGAIN, SHARE THESE VIDEOS WITH YOUR NETWORK!  Roswell Rotary’s role is to spread the word to our community, so please let Terry Taylor or Becky Stone know where you will share these videos!

Finally, we celebrate Roswell Rotary’s sponsorship of the Family Waiting Room at the WellStar North Fulton Emergency Department.  Roswell Rotary Signage highlighting Roswell Rotary and its caring for families in the North Fulton community will be seen by everyone entering the Emergency Department at WellStar North Fulton Hospital!  Celebration Event will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5-7 pm at WellStar North Fulton to recognize the sponsorship and provide an opportunity for Rotarians for personal tours of the Family Waiting Room (without an emergency!).  All are welcome!

Past President Moment
Lou Tabickman - 2014 - 2015

2014-15 Rotary’s theme was “Light Up Rotary” and DG Alicia Michael declared it was “Mission Possible”.  President Lou Tabickman accepted the challenge and led Roswell Rotary on its mission of service and fun…Honduras, literacy, ending human trafficking, veterans, distracted driving, golf, tennis, flash mobs…and much more.  Come early and check out Lou’s scrapbook on the big screen as we learn more about the Rotary year 2014-2015.
