FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynne Lindsey and all news should be directed to her at lynnehlindsay@outlook.com

President's Message
Peace & Conflict Resolution

One of the six areas of focus of Rotary that has come even more to the forefront over the past years is peace and conflict resolution and prevention. This also happens to be the theme for the month of February.

Rotary International as an organization is deeply invested in supporting individuals and programs that will develop leaders who are committed to seeking ways toward peace.

During February, Rotary Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution month we're celebrating our commitment to build peace and mitigate conflict.

This Week's Speaker
Global Grant Scholar

Maddy Scholar

Maddy is a Rotary Global Grant Scholar who has recently returned from her adventures in Manchester, England. She lived in Manchester for nearly a year before Coronavirus cut her time in England short. However, she was able to finish her program from her home in Georgia. She received a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the University of Manchester and graduated with distinctive honors. Before receiving the grant, she attended Coastal Carolina University where she studied for her Bachelors degree, also graduating with Magna Cum Laude. At Coastal, she published multiple chapters in various books, participated in a fellowship, and graduated in three years.

She enjoys a very active lifestyle, to include mixed martial arts, bull riding, scuba diving, and shooting. Currently, she is living with her parents and younger brother in Marietta, Georgia and is looking into starting her career.

Join RPD in the Polar Plunge, Sat. Feb. 20th

The Roswell Police Department has asked that we join their team in the Special Olympics of Georgia Polar Plunge 2021 at Acworth Beach.

Allison Judy, Dave McCleary, Butch Neeley, Terry Taylor, John Reddick and David Wash have taken the challenge!   Be certain to support them!

Feb 26 / Mar 02 at Gate City
10 days from now: You truly would save a life.

You can impact Roswell's Quality of Life.

Living in a safe community is important to all of us. At least Maslow thinks so. :-)

Having an adequate supply of blood is a piece of what makes Roswell an idea place to be....and better than Alpharetta*.

Ask 3 fellow Rotarians, and between the 4 of you, someone's medical care likely required blood. And for Wellstar to continue to be the awesome community partner it is, they need access to blood.

Even if you are the 2 out of 3 people who is not eligible to donation, you can help by inviting someone to participate in our upcoming blood drive. And if you're eligible to give, just look in the mirror and invite yourself!

BONUS: Give a Pint? Get a Pint! Thanks to Pat Rains and Gate City Brewery, whoever gives a pint of blood gets a gift of a pint of beer -- to be enjoy anytime over the next 6 months! And our friends at Amazon are adding in a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card!

Roswell is hosting 2 dates at Gate City Brewery. For details and to "reserve your table", please go to www.redcrossblood.org/ and in the “Find a Blood Drive” box, enter “RoswellRotary” (no space between the words)

Fri, Feb 26 11a - 4p     ||      Tue, Mar 02, 11a - 4p

(*) We're competing with Alpharetta Rotary for the "Golden Pint" award: Which club can collect more blood in Q1. The wining club gets a Golden Pint provided by the losing club. So let's make President Lynne proud.

ALSO: Volunteers are needed both days to help with sign-in and the commissary. Contact John Reddick if you're interested in volunteering for a few hours.

Charity Spotlight
Senior Services North Fulton

Mission:

To care about older adults’ quality of life and their ability to age in community, to collaborate to build programs and services to meet their needs, and to serve the community by supporting seniors, caregivers and families.

Fast Facts:

• Founded in 1991

• Georgia ranks 9th in the top 10 senior hunger states in the United States.

• SSNF’s range of services include: Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Care Management, Senior Centers, and Meals on Wheels for Pets.

• SSNF provides over 2,600 meals per month through its Meals on Wheels.

• Fulton County provides funding for SSNF however, residents are placed on a waiting list because funding does not meet the demand. Grants from Roswell Rotary and others enable SSNF to serve 300 additional seniors.

• Pantry to You, a new partnership with North Fulton Community Charities’ food pantry, has enabled SSNF to deliver nonperishable groceries to clients twice a month.

• Transportation Options Program for Seniors (TOPS) provides transportation to medical appointments, and facilitates rides to other locations including senior centers, pharmacies, and grocery stores.

• Care Managers conduct home visits with seniors to evaluate their needs and offer assistance with one of the following services: Personal Care Assistance, Homemaker Services, or Respite Care.

• Senior centers in Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, and Sandy Springs, provide a home away from home for hundreds of citizens each week. Seniors find companionship and an opportunity to take part in activities that range from art and photography to chess and physical exercise classes.

• SSNF understands the bond and companionship seniors have with their pets. Meals on Wheels for Pets provide support in purchasing all or part of monthly pet food and cat litter needs.
